The number of international postgraduates at the university has increased by 2.5 times over the past three years.

An increasing number of international prospective students opt for post graduate studies at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University; at present, the University has 87 foreigners doing a PhD. SPbPU offers 25 postgraduate majors and several postgraduate double degree programmes with Technical University of Berlin (Germany), Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland), Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture (China) and other universities. Depending on the programme, postgraduates defend their PhD theses at SPbPU in the presence of partner university representatives, or they present the thesis in Russia first and then at a foreign university.

Training and thesis defence are conducted in Russian, so prospective students’ language proficiency should be B1 or higher. If the postgraduate takes a SPbPU double degree programme, they have to take an English proficiency test as well.

To enrol in SPbPU postgraduate studies, prospective students have to fill out an application form on the university website. A University representative will contact the applicant to help them choose the programme and recommend a research advisor. Prospective postgraduates have to email the documents confirming their academic degrees to the University. If the applicant requires a visa, the University’s international section will send them a letter of invitation to Russia.

Prospective postgraduates have to show the original documents and their notary certified translation at SPbPU. The applicants are interviewed by the research advisor and take an interdisciplinary examination and a Russian test.

Application deadline is 25 July 2017 (if a visa is required) and 5 September (if no visa is required).
