This programme trains young scholars to conduct interdisciplinary research into the politics, economics, cultures, ethnicities, religions, and linguistics of Asia. It teaches not only the next generation of Asian Studies researchers, but also prepares students for professional careers involving Asia.
Using proper methods for carrying out research and analysis, students study the socio-economic, political, and culture-historic processes that shape countries in Asia. Special emphasis is placed on transnational relationships, interactions between Asia and the West, and the processes of globalization and social modernization.
Graduates enter doctoral programmes or begin their careers working for government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international companies. As Asia’s role on the global stage grows, regional experts are in even greater demand across all international-related professions.
