The Master's Program in Complex Asian Countries Studies offers a course of study designed to provide a broad understanding and deep knowledge to those bachelors, who are interested in exploring the East Asian countries and strive to become scientific reviewers, researchers, consultants, experts in government agencies, international, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, or to teacher and professors in higher institutions.

The objectives of the program include:

  • Mastering methods of various Russian and foreign scientific schools, modern theories and methods in studying subsystems and Russian foreign policy;
  • Acquiring the skills of analysis and forecasting of the main trends in the countries of East Asia, international relations in the region;
  • The ability to formulate and solve professionally oriented scientific issues related to the interaction of Russia with the regional authorities, businesses and non-profit organizations in the countries of Eastern Asia;
  • Fluency in Chinese, Korean and Japanese languages.

The special focus of the programme is on inner development and foreign policies of Asian giants like China, Republic of Korea and Japan, as they are one of the key partners for Russian Federation.

This Master’s programme also provides students with the opportunities for exchange programs with our partner universities and leading research and educational centers like the Academy of Korean studies in Sungnam, South Korea; Shenyang polytechnic university in Shenyang, China; Dalian Institute of Foreign languages, China; Xinjiang University in Urumqi, China; Tokyo Metropolitan University in Tokyo, Japan.

The main courses include:

  • History and methodology of integrated complex regional studies;

  • Political systems and cultures of East Asian countries;

  • Modernization processes and transformation in this area;

  • Comparative analysis of economic integration in Europe and in the Asian-Pacific region;

  • Demographic situation in east Asian states;

  •  Energy security in eastern Asia;

  • Social and political thought in the region.

Graduates also have an opportunity to continue their education as PhD students. 

Requirements:

Applicants to our Master’s program must have a diploma from a higher educational institution that is recognized in Russia. Applicants will be selected on the competitive basis according to the results of their examination in the following subjects: foreign regional studies and an interview on one of the topics of the course.
