The Institute of Foreign Languages of PFUR

IFL is the biggest linguistic structure of PFUR. The IFL Bachelor’s course prepares future translators, diplomats and teachers. More narrow specializations are offered by the MA course.

Our students study not only European languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian) but also the eastern ones, the most popular of which are Arabic and Chinese.

The Institute of Foreign Languages of PFUR is accredited by the London Chamber of Commerce as the International Test Centre of LCCI International Qualifications. After completing their studies, students pass international certification exams which give them the opportunity to work and study abroad.

Science and international activities are especially vital at IFL. Professors, academicians and PhDs actively promote scientific achievements of young scientists all the way from their term papers to thesis presentation.

From the very beginning of their studies students are encouraged to participate in international scientific conferences organized by IFL and its foreign colleagues. Every year IFL publishes collected student articles “The first steps in big–time science”.

All of the above gives the students a wonderful opportunity to graduate from IFL not only with a prestigious diploma but also a range of scientific publications. International cooperation is one of IFL’s top priorities. The Institute often welcomes representatives of different diplomatic missions. Students meet with ambassadors of foreign states and foreign embassy representatives.

Within the framework of international activities students (under the guidance of their professors) regularly participate in short-term practical studies and visit different countries.

In turn, students from abroad come to the Summer school within the program “Intercultural Dialogue – East and West”. Within the scope of the program of professors’ mobility together with the annual master-classes, presentations and lectures held twice a month (and sometimes more often) IFL is visited by foreign scientists – professors, academicians and experts. They give the students an opportunity to broaden and deepen their knowledge, experience the culture of other countries without leaving their university.

For example, academic exchanges are based not only on short-term courses but also on double diploma programs. So, students can simultaneously get a PFUR diploma and diplomas of Catholic University of Lille (France) and Napier University of Edinburgh (UK). IFL is proud of its “Institute is our family” program, thanks to which each student can feel the professors’ care. IFL is famous for its friendly, almost family atmosphere.

Each course features a special program. The first-year students immediately find themselves in the IFL state on IFL planet, second-year students travel to the multicultural world of second foreign languages, during the third year everybody can feel that “My profession is superb!” and year four is devoted to science. As for MA students, their program is called “Future Indefinite”.

IFL is proud of its student English Theatre “The Stage”, young singing and dancing, recitation and sports stars. Workdays go hand in hand with stunning celebrations – becoming a citizen of IFL Republic, Christmas Meetings, “You’re Simply the Best” competition and many more.

Employment troubles are out of the question for IFL graduates. They are in great demand on the labor market and many find their first jobs during studying or internship. Teaching, diplomacy, consulates and ministries, business, tourism, journalism, show-business – that’s not the full list of spheres where IFL PFUR graduates work.

People of all generations can participate in our complementary education programs. Advanced training (including individual options) is available to all those interested. Anyway, it’s better to come and see for yourself. In IFL we’re always happy to see you! Welcome!

This form of organising the studies gives the opportunity to react flexibly to the changes on labour market and employers’ requirements, to adjust educational programmes taking into account the changes in science, world economy, new advertising techniques and managerial decisions.

Another advantage is the fact that we are able to invite the leading experts – practitioners in the spheres of economics, advertising, management and marketing – to give lectures, hold workshops and seminars, organise round-table discussions and business club meetings. Such lessons allow students to acquire professional practical skills and see the issues in the named spheres in a new light.

Apart from basic and professional subjects, IWEB students learn two foreign languages within the basic educational programme, which gives them the chance to put their communicational, professional and competitive skills to best use at work. Master’s programme is taught optionally in three languages, which are Russian, English and Spanish.

Our graduates get state diplomas of the appropriate level of training and diplomas of further education in language programmes. Various scholarship programmes run in IWEB give the opportunity to all students to apply their capabilities in professional, scientific and public fields.

We have adaptation programmes for foreign students. They all can learn the Russian language, as well as our customs and traditions, visit excursions in Moscow and other Russian cities. Each foreign student has an adviser (one of Russian A-students) who helps them in theirs studies and IWEB student life. It is worth mentioning, that IWEB organises internships for foreigners in Russian companies and banks. During this period foreign students can get practical work experience, compare the systems of different spheres in Russia and their native countries and adopt the advanced management experience in various sectors of the national economy of our country.

IWEB has been a member of Russian Organisation of Business Education since 1990. MBA programme is one of the forms of further education and has been realised since 1992. It is one of the first successful MBA programmes in Russia, which has trained over 600 people from Russia and other countries.
