Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tomsk and Novosibirsk are featured in the top 100 best cities for students according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

During the preparation of ranking, which is published for the fifth time, the British company has analyzed only a city with a population of more than 250 thousand people and minimum two universities. 

Every megapolis received scores on several indicators: training quality, ease of urban infrastructure, employment possibilities etc. QS Employees surveyed more than 18,000 university students around the world in order to rank the cities. The Russian capital has risen in the ranking from 43 to 39 place during last year. According to the QS researchers, Moscow is a city of superlatives, therefore the student life cannot be boring in the major metropolitan area in Europe, says "Kommersant". Furthermore, many employers are willing to hire young professionals graduated from metropolitan universities.

Saint Petersburg (No. 78), Tomsk (No. 91) and Novosibirsk (No. 93) were featured among the top 100 best cities for the first time. At the same time, the Northern Capital takes 7th place in terms of accessibility of urban environment for the residents. The authors of the study acknowledge that, although the rent is quite expensive in Russian big cities, but the tuition fees in universities are very attractive for foreigners. In addition, most universities provide students with a dormitory accommodation for a small rental fee

In 2017, Montreal was recognized as the best city for students. The leader of last year, Paris, has surrendered due to a series of terrorist attacks occurred in the French capital in 2016.
