Faculty of Computer Science

Founded in 2014, the Faculty of Computer Science at HSE is one of the youngest departments at the university. The Faculty and its educational programmes were developed in full collaboration with Yandex, one of Russia’s premier IT companies. In the coming years, the Faculty aims to enter the world’s top 30 rankings for university IT departments.

Specific areas within computer science, such as software development, information technology, and applied mathematics, are constantly developing. University education often do not provide students with the most current skills and knowledge that are needed to meet the demands of their future employers. With this in mind, Yandex founded the Data Analysis School (DAS) seven years ago to train master’s students in computer science.

Yandex drew on experiences gained from DAS when creating the new department at HSE in Moscow. As a result, a great opportunity made available to undergraduate and graduate students to receive IT and computer science theoretical knowledge and practical training.

Close collaboration among Yandex employees, HSE lecturers, and students prepares students to launch their careers in IT or even to create startups with their peers.
