More than 300 students of Russian universities from 46 countries took part in the contest.

Moscow was the venue of the countrywide Russian language proficiency contest among international students. The contestants were offered to do a test, write an essay about Russia and talk in Russian with judges of the competition.  Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) postgraduate Li Jun from China outperformed his rivals and was declared the winner. It is noteworthy that Li studies economy, not linguistics like many other students who participated in the contest.

Li had a bachelor's degree in economics from Qingdao University, China. He decided to continue his education in Russia and came to Vladivostok where he completed a master’s programme at a city university and then enrolled in Far Eastern Federal University postgraduate studies. The young man is now working on his Ph.D. paper addressing efficient control in steelmaking. After finishing his postgraduate studies he plans to take a teacher’s position at FEFU to work with international students.
