South Ural State University Hosts Day of Arab Culture

Iraqi, Yemeni, Palestinian and Syrian students gave an overview of their respective countries’ traditions.

It was the second time the University held the Day of Arab Culture with indispensable national dances, songs and national costumes. Taste testing of traditional eastern cuisine dishes crafted by students from Arab countries drew a keen interest. Everybody was welcome to help himself to dishes little known in Russia and even take a lesson in cooking with Arab students’ guidance. These informal events help students get to know each other, make friends and better adapt in a strange country, festival organizers said.

Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Mr. Haidar Mansour Hadi attended the Arab culture festival at South Ural State University. The university, the largest in southern Urals, might have more training programmes for Iraqi students who currently number 200.

Iraqi bachelor’s degree student Ali who plans to become a software development engineer said he liked the festival. “It’s a remarkable country,” he said referring to Russia. “Very kind people live here.
