Ural Federal University in Yekaterinburg has 230 students from India, China, Mexico and Malaysia taking short programmes.

The Indian students began studies on 12 June 2017; classes for the rest started on 3 July. The students learn Russian and prepare to present projects of their own in one of the chosen fields: civil engineering, IT, architecture, mechanical engineering, business and electrical engineering. Classes end on 23 July; special awards will be given to the best students, and each participant will receive a Summer University certificate.

Aside from study, international students enjoy active recreation and explore places of interest in Yekaterinburg and the region. The university arranged tours of the Yeltsin Centre (a museum of modern Russian politics), the city Zoo, Ganina Yama monastery and the Olenyi Ruchyi natural park. Concerts and entertainment are offered as well. In a recent dance master class on the square in front of UrFU, Summer University students were learning hip hop mixed with Russian folk dances moves.

UrFU launched Summer University in 2014 as a joint project with partner universities including Gujarat Technological University (India), Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Mexico) and Tongji University (China).
