101 Russian Universities in QS Rankings

QS World University Rankings BRICS 2019 released a new edition.

Russian universities become increasingly popular abroad as Quacquarelli Symonds’ survey of top higher education centres in Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa shows. Of the 400 listed universities, Russia is represented by 101, versus 55 in QS BRICS rankings 2017 and 68 in QS BRICS rankings 2018. Lomonosov Moscow State University tops the Russian league table at 5th position. It is followed by Saint Petersburg State University (11th) and Novosibirsk State University (12th). The top 100 include National Research Tomsk State University (19th), Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (21st), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (30th), Higher School of Economics (37th), Tomsk Polytechnic University (39th), National University of Science and Technology MISIS (54th), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (56th), Ural Federal University (58th), Kazan Federal University (60th), ITMO University (64th), Lobachevsky University (69th), Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (76th), Samara University (86th), Far Eastern Federal University (87th) etc. Several Russian universities appeared in QS rankings for the first time, such as I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (115th), University of Tyumen (group 301-350) and some others. QS BRICS 2019 also listed South Ural State University which moved up 26 positions to 112th place, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI” (113th), Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University (160th), Siberian Federal University (169th) etc.

QS employs eight metrics in assessing BRICS universities including academic reputation, employer reputation, staff with a PhD and international student ratio.
