17 Russian Universities in ARWU Rankings by Subject
Shanghai Ranking published the results of prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The list of the world’s top universities released on 17 July, 2018. More than 4,000 higher education centres were ranked by 54 subjects in medicine, natural sciences, engineering, social science and life sciences. In ARWU 2018 survey, Russian universities were ranked across 24 subjects, up five from 2017. The best results were shown in engineering fields. Seven Russian universities were ranked for physics, including Lomonosov Moscow State University (44th position), Novosibirsk State University (group 101-150), National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (151-200) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (201-300). Five Russian universities were ranked for Instruments Science and Technology: Lomonosov Moscow State University in the group 151-200 and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Novosibirsk State University and National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University in the group 201-300. National University of Science and Technology MISIS and Belgorod State National Research University are in top 100 for metallurgical engineering (group 76-100); National University of Science and Technology MISIS and Novosibirsk State University are among the best also for mining and mineral engineering (group 76-100). Russian universities were also ranked for mathematics, electrical and electronic engineering, automation and control, computer science and engineering, materials science and engineering, nanoscience and nanotechnology, energy science and engineering, biotechnology. Higher School of Economics made the group 51-75 for social science, group 151-200 for economics, group 151-200 for political science and group 401-500 for management.
ARWU 2018 tables included for the first time Lobachevsky University in meteorology, ITMO National Research University (electrical and electronic engineering, material science and technology, nanoscience and nanotechnology) and Ural Federal University (metallurgical engineering).
