39 Russian Universities in THE Ranking

Times Higher Education published the results of the annual survey of universities across developing countries.

THE Emerging Economies University Rankings are traditionally released in the beginning of the year. In 2020, experts surveyed 533 universities in 47 countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, China, Vietnam etc. Russia was represented by 39 higher education centres, up four from the previous year. Moscow State University, placed 5th, leads the Russian league. It is followed by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (12) and Higher School of Economics which advanced four positions to 18th place. Among the top 100 are National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (27), ITMO University (35), National Research Tomsk State University (52), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (72), Novosibirsk State University (82) and National University of Science and Technology MISIS (89). THE also listed National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, Kazan Federal University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Samara University, Ural Federal University, Far Eastern Federal University, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”, Siberian Federal University, Lobachevsky University, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, South Ural State University (appears in the rankings for the first time) etc.

THE relies on 13 performance indicators grouped in five categories including teaching, research, citations and international outlook.
