Russian and Japanese universities signed an agreement to exchange missions.

Tokyo’s Tokai University and Far Eastern Federal University will open their offices on the premises of the partner university in 2018. The missions are expected to facilitate more effective student and teacher exchanges and launch double degree programmes in studies of climate, genome medicine, virtual reality technologies, law and laser technology and implement joint research in these fields. The first student exchange programme is already underway. In February 2018, 15 FEFU students had a two-week internship in Tokyo, while in March, 15 Japanese students visited Vladivostok; another 70 Japanese students are expected in the summer. The number of students and length of internships will increase in the future.

Far Eastern Federal University is the only Russian higher education centre which has its mission in Japan. FEFU’s first Japanese office in the town of Hakodate, Hokkaido, opened in 1994, currently trains specialists in Russian and regional studies. FEFU cooperates with other Japanese education centres such as Hokkaido University, Osaka University and Vaseda University. Thanks to partnership ties, Japanese students have the opportunity to study in Russia and connect with its culture.
