Higher School of Economic, a top Russian university will hold the International Youth Olympiad in October 2018. Foreign nationals, stateless persons and Russians permanently residing abroad (high schoolers, graduates and students of foreign education institutions) under 30 years of age are welcome. The Olympiad is held in Russian and includes 16 tracks such as mathematics, physics, contemporary politics, journalism, Asian studies, philology, history etc. Tryouts in all disciplines can be attended in person at the venues abroad (the addresses are available on the HSE website), as well as on the HSE campuses in Moscow, St Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm. The competition in design is only held remotely.

To submit an application to take part in the Olympiad, participants are requested to register from 10 August till 14 October 2018. They have to fill out a basic personal information form and attach a cover letter detailing their achievements, explaining the decision to take part in the Olympiad and naming the preferred fields of study. Winners and runners up seeking to study at HSE on bachelor’s programmes in 2019 will get the opportunity to enter the university as Russian government scholarship quota students without taking entrance examinations. HSE has held International Youth Olympiads since 2010; initially, they were meant for Commonwealth of Independent States countries and the Baltic states and later reached other regions. In the academic year 2017/2018, more than 4,000 prospective students from 15 countries took part in international intellectual competitions.
