The number of students on SPbPU short programme 2018 increased three-fold from last year’s.

Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University holds Power Engineering Winter School every year. In 2018, it gathered 140 students from South Korea, China, Italy, the Czech Republic and Russia. Three fields were available: Turbomachinery, Nuclear Power Engineering and Electric Power Engineering. Students had two weeks of lectures in field-specific subjects and visited large energy companies in the city such as Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, Southwestern CHP Plant and Power Machines. The course was taught by SPbPU teachers, visiting professors from Italian, German and Finnish universities and Rosatom Russian State Corporation representatives. SPbPU volunteers helped with programme arrangements this year.

Aside from classes, students were offered entertainment including St Petersburg sightseeing and walking tours, a photo quest and a party devoted to different cultures. Spoken Russian Clubs invited foreigners to practice language skills. All the participants were awarded certificates of completion at the end of the course. SPbPU power engineering school has been very popular with international students. It is held twice a year; the next school will run in late July - early August 2018.
