The Belarussian student defended his title of the world’s best programmer for the sixth consecutive time.

Google Code Jam, one of the most challenging IT contests, ended in San Francisco. Participants were offered to solve a series of algorithmic puzzles within a certain time. This year, ITMO University student Gennady Korotkevich won the championship title for the sixth time in a row, outperforming more than 50,000 talented peers from across the world, including Japanese and U.S. finalists. It is the first ever mega winning streak in the entire Code Jam history. Korotkevich is a winner of other prestigious competitions; he was a member of the Russian team when it won the ICPC Cup in 2013 and 2015; also, he won the Yandex.Algorithm contest five times and Facebook Hacker Cup twice.

Gennady Korotkevich was admitted to the ITMO University Information Technologies and Programming Faculty in 2012. In 2018, he got a masters degree at the Computer Technologies Department; after winning the Google Code Jam 2018 he passed the examinations for a PhD programme. He received many job offers from international companies but decided to continue his studies at a Russian university.
