Preparatory Department students presented reports in Russian which they began to study less than a year ago.

International students of Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI” took part in the conference Science of Present and Future. Students from Egypt, China, Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Côte d’Ivoire, Peru and other countries presented their reports at the workshop Russian as a Foreign Language. Before enrolling in LETI, the students did not speak Russian.

Following six months of Preparatory Department studies, they could participate in a contest on equal footing with others. Students had to produce papers in Russian on quite complicated issues, such as Sri Lankan National Parks, Côte d’Ivoire’s Economy Today, Chinese Intellectual Breakthroughs etc.

The judges at the contest praised the substantive part of the reports and the students’ considerable progress in Russian language studies as they had mastered complicated vocabulary and pronunciation and even learnt to joke in Russian.
