The university launched new engineering programmes.

National University of Science and Technology MISIS launched PhD programmes in physics and astronomy and materials technology. Prospective international students can apply for Condensed Matter Physics and Quantum Technologies or Materials Science of Non-Ferrous Metals and Alloys. Both programmes aim to prepare researchers and teachers. The students who choose physical sciences will focus on solid state physics, experimental methods to study the chemical composition of solids, condensed state physics, quantum mechanics etc. The materials science programme trains non-ferrous metals specialists. They will do materials engineering, applied and computational thermodynamics, the solution of materials science problems and other subjects. All PhD students have mandatory teaching practice. The students who successfully complete the PhD programmes are awarded a diploma in Russian and a certificate of training translated into English. Those who defend their PhD thesis get an academic title diploma in Russian and English (stating that Candidateof Sciences is a PhD equivalent).

MISIS PhD studies have several advantages such as internships at international partner universities such as School of Higher Technology (Canada), University of Johannesburg (South Africa), University of Rome Tor Vergata (Italy), and University of Copenhagen (Denmark). PhD students can take part in a contest for research engineer job at a leading MISIS laboratory. To be admitted, prospective international students have to pass an English medium examination in the principal subject. Applications for PhD programmes are open till 20 June 2019; early contact with the university is recommended prior to submitting the documents, in order to choose the supervisor, send them one’s portfolio and discuss plans for future work. Create a personal account on our website and write to the university. MISIS International Office will tell what to do next.
