MISIS to Open Branch in Uzbekistan

The first students will begin studies in autumn 2018.

National University of Science and Technology MISIS, a leading Russian engineering university, will open its branch in the town of Almalyk, Tashkent region. The MISIS departments will be accommodated at Navoiy State Mining Institute and Almalyk Professional Industrial College. The first entrance examinations are due in summer; classes will begin on September 3. The MISIS branch is to provide education in three fields: mining, metallurgy and automation of technological processes and production. It will train geologists, mining engineers, specialists in developing natural deposits and IT experts; a wide range of professions is offered.

Russian education is popular with prospective Uzbek students. In 2015/2016, Russia was providing higher education of various levels to 14,000 Uzbek nationals. The number of Uzbek students increased to 16,000 in the academic year 2016/2017. MISIS Moscow branch currently has 578 Uzbek students; a majority are taking programmes of the College of Mining, College of Environmentally Sound Technologies and Engineering and College of New Materials and Nanotechnologies.
