The Russian capital has won the World Travel Awards and placed 6th in a prestigious ranking.

Oman hosted the World Travel Awards ceremony. Moscow was named “World's Leading City Destination”. In 2019, more than 19 million tourists have visited the capital. In addition to Moscow, 18 cities as London, New York, Lisbon, Paris, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro etc were represented in this nomination.

That’s not the only achievement on the account of the Russian capital. Moscow also entered the top ten in the ranking of the most popular and comfortable cities, according to the international Agency Resonance Consultancy. Major tourist destinations as Chicago, Singapore, Dubai and San Francisco leaved behind. Experts assessed cities using a number of parameters such as places of interest, infrastructure, housing affordability, job opportunities, online promotion etc. In terms of attractions Moscow was named the best city. Resonance Consultancy particularly noted such places of interest as the Kremlin and Red Square, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Luzhniki Stadium, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines, the Museum of Cosmonautics, the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, the Artplay Design Centre and the Vinzavod Centre for Contemporary Art. “My Street”, an urban development programme launched in 2015 dramatically changed the appearance of the city adding pedestrian walkways, bike trails, parks and better street lighting. A good public transport system is another important advantage of Moscow. It is among the best cities for airport connectivity and its subway has long been admired by foreigners, not just for technical efficiency but also for excellent design of stations.

Moscow places high in other rankings. In 2019, it was 38th in Innovation Cities Global Index and 34th in Britain’s Quacquarelli Symonds ranking for the best host cities for students. This is not surprising given the fact that there are more than 250 universities in Moscow such as Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, National ResearchNuclear University MEPhI, National University of Science and Technology MISIS, Higher School of Economics, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, I.M.Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University etc.
