The world’s best cities for quality of life have been named.

Numbeo, a global database focused on living standards across the world, released Quality of Life Index 2019 listing 226 cities. Nizhny Novgorod, placed 109th, topped the Russian league and also led such world centres as Toronto, Brussels, Madrid and Los Angeles. The Russian table included St Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk. The survey relied on such criteria as safety, health care, cost of living, property price to income ratio, purchasing power, pollution, traffic commute time and climate. Nizhny Novgorod showed the best results for health care and safety in Russia.

Founded in 1221, Nizhny Novgorod is one of Russia’s oldest cities. It welcomes thousands of tourists every day who come to see beautiful churches, monasteries and interesting museums and walk in city parks. The city is also a Russian higher education centre hosting more than 30 universities which offer training in various fields. Among the prestigious universities are Lobachevsky University and a branch of Higher School of Economics. More information in the universities section on our website.
