Russia, Uzbekistan Sign Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Academic Degrees

The academic recognition procedure is no longer necessary for prospective Uzbek students and Russian universities graduates.

On 30 May, 2019, Moscow and Tashkent signed a long-awaited agreement on mutual recognition of education, qualifications and academic degrees. Secondary education certificates, bachelor’s, masters, PhD and clinical residency degrees awarded in Uzbekistan are henceforth recognised by Russia without additional procedures. The same applies to degrees from Russian universities: Uzbek nationals who graduate from the universities accredited by the state can pursue a higher degree or work in their profession immediately upon returning to their homeland. If graduates completed full-time studies they do not have to take additional examinations to prove their qualifications.

An increasing number of prospective Uzbek students enter Russian universities every year. Russia was providing training to 14,000 Uzbek nationals in the academic year 2015/2016, 16,800 in 2016/2017 and 20,300 in 2017/2018. The two countries have been stepping up cooperation in education. They arrange regulation exhibitions to promote Russian higher education. On top of that, prestigious Russian universities branch out in Uzbekistan. Branch campuses were opened by National University of Science and Technology MISIS and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and others.
