This year, Russian universities have significantly expanded their presence in the Times Higher Education global subject rankings – the list now includes 48 universities, 8 of which ranked in the top 200.

Leading Russian universities ranked highly in the top 100: Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov in Art and Humanities and Physics Sciences, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology – Physics Sciences and Computer Science, Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University in Education and NRU MEPhI - Physical Sciences.

Higher School of Economics, SPbPU, ITMO University, Tomsk State University, NSU and Peoples' Friendship University of Russia also showed excellent results. Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University entered the list for the first time, and UrFU, UNN, SUSU, ETU "LETI", MSMU, Samara University, FEFU, MISiS and SibFU occupied high positions in the ranking once again.

Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject assesses universities in 11 subject areas. Russian education establishments achieved the broadest representation in such fundamental areas as Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Computer Science (Informatics).
