Russia led other countries by the number of medals.

The international sport competitions involving student teams from 58 countries are over. Russia topped the overall standings winning 112 awards including 41 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 32 bronze medals. Of course, sport universities teams were the best, but students from traditional universities did not lag behind. For example, Siberian Federal University athletes won 12 awards, Lobachevsky University and Kazan Federal University accounted for five medals each and Ural Federal University students won four awards.

The visitors who came to see Krasnoyarsk sport events were entertained with concerts and Russian national groups performances, drummers shows, light and music shows and games in the Universiade Park. One of the most spectacular shows was athletes’ display of bicycle, trampoline and roller skate stunts performed to classical music. The Park accommodated the Ethnic Village featuring the cultures and customs of peoples living in Russia. Foreigners could taste traditional sweetmeats, learn to play national table games or take part in master classes in embroidery, braiding and bone cutting. The Park saw 679,500 visitors during the World Student Games and none was daunted by the Siberian cold weather. Incidentally, the weather was not frosty at all as the temperature hardly ever dropped below zero degrees Celsius.

Russia hosted the World Winter Universiade for the first time. Preparations for the landmark event began back in 2014; by 2017, 12 large sport facilities had been built in Krasnoyarsk including multi-purpose sport facilities, ice rinks and skiing pistes. The Universiade village on Siberian Federal University campus accommodated athletes and volunteers as well as apartment complexes, gyms and a fitness club. All these facilities are now available to SibFU students.
