Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University sees one of its priorities as making the education and research process international; the university participates in international research and academic networks, including for MegaScience projects.

The university has over 350 international students in educational programs from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and CIS countries. Around 200 international students from these countries come for various exchange and short-term programs each year. The university has entered into over 100 partnership agreements with universities from 26 countries. Half of them are actively involved in educational and scientific initiatives and international mobility programs.

The university has gained successful experience in network initiatives in the Baltic region, including those for learning the current status of the Russian language in countries with Russian expat communities. Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University is a member of seven international university associations, including the European University Association, Magna Charta Universitatum, and Interaction with Academic Circles (UN initiative).

Since 2005, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University has participated in the Supporting Compatriots Living Abroad program. Selection is for all programs: Bachelor's, Specialist, Master's, and PhD. The university currently has 144 international students studying under this program.

Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University participates in the Academic Mobility program and accepts international students for exchange programs. Over the last 4 years, the university has accepted 42 bachelors, 12 masters, 300 trainees, 30 professors (including foreign language professors of English, German, Polish, Italian, Lithuanian, and Croatian), 160 other staff, 300+ participants of international summer schools, conferences, and field expeditions – a total of 850 people from Germany, Poland, Croatia, Finland, Italy, France, Latvia, Lithuania, and other countries. From 2014 to 2015, the outgoing mobility number reached 230 graduate and PhD students.

Baltic Federal University currently takes active part in the Erasmus+ program. As part of the program, our students (including international ones) may spend an exchange semester at a partner university abroad, conduct research, or develop a project.

Moreover, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University partners in double-degree programs, for instance, with Universite Pier-Mendes-France (Grenoble, France) – Economics and Management programs; and universities of Göttingen and Marburg (Germany) – Legal program. Students of these programs receive double-degree diplomas – one from Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and one from the partnering university. We have two-way academic mobility programs with several partnering universities in Germany, Poland, and France.
