Webometrics Ranking has been released biannually – in summer and winter – for the past 15 years by Cybometrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) which is the country’s counterpart of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The study’s objective is to encourage higher education centres to publish research information and promote open access for students. Experts evaluated the universities by several criteria including the number of external links to the university website, the number of published webpages and rich files and highly cited papers and researchers.
