An Olympiad in Russian for international schoolchildren has begun; the winners are entitled to Russian university scholarships.  

In 2019, Russian federal universities will provide free tuition to the winners of the International Russian Language Olympiad. Senior schoolchildren who have high-level proficiency in Russian are welcome to apply. The competition targets foreign nationals studying Russian as a foreign language and pupils of Russian medium schools. Participants are required to write an essay and show spoken Russian skills and the knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. The top ten scorers in the first and second groups win philological and linguistic programme scholarships at the Russian universities which are supervised by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. These include Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Far Eastern Federal University, Kazan Federal University, National Research Tomsk State University, Novosibirsk State University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Ural Federal University, University of Tyumen, Siberian Federal University, South Ural State University, National University of Science and Technology MISIS and others.

The Olympiad has three rounds. The first two are online tryouts. Initial tests will continue until 30 September 2018. Top scorers advance to the second round to be held on 1-20 October 2018. The third round will be held at Pushkin State Russian Language Institute in Moscow on 3-14 December 2018. The organizers pay the costs of board, lodging and cultural programme. Register at the Pushkin Institute website till 30 September to take part in the academic competition. The website offers reference materials to prepare for the contest.
