New Campuses to Be Built in Tomsk, Perm
The Russian government is allocating money to support student dormitories.
Two Russian cities will have modern multipurpose campuses by 2024. Under the project, a campus will include teaching blocks, dormitories and sport facilities. The Tomsk campus capacity is 20,000 places. It is intended for six higher education centres including National Research Tomsk State University, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University etc. The project is important for the development of Tomsk as a university city where every tenth resident is a student, according to last year data. In Perm, the new campus will sprawl on a 20-hectare area. The residential segment is designed for some 6,000 people. Outdoor sports grounds, a training and health centre with a swimming pool and a park will be built as well. The Russian government is allocating 102.2 billion rubles to increase the number of places in dormitories to 77,600 in the period from 2019 to 2024.
Comfortable campuses are an important factor in choosing a study destination. Domestic campuses can rival European ones even now. The Far Eastern Federal University campus on the Russky Island is regarded as one of the best in Russia and in the world. It has dormitories that look more like hotels, dining halls and cafes, stadiums, sports grounds, a technopark, an oceanarium, a beach and a yacht club, and well-equipped classrooms and modern laboratories. Kazan Federal University students live in the Universiade village built for participants of the World Student Games 2013. Another example is the Siberian Federal University campus where new dormitories, gyms, dining halls, a health and recreation centres, shops and other facilities have been built over the past few years.
