The trainees studied the operation of nuclear reactors for two weeks.

Twenty-four Turkish students study Design, Operation and Engineering of NPSs at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The programme aims to train specialists for the Akkuyu Nuclear Power plant which Russia is building in Turkey. In addition to solidifying the theoretical knowledge gained at the university, the students had summer practice at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant training centre.

They studied Russia’s state-of-the-art VVER-1200 reactor technology and were introduced to Generation 3 + control and management systems. The interns watched NPP personnel’s actions in various modes of operation on a full-scale simulator. The students liked the practice as they saw the inside of the NPP and talked to its employees who shared their working experience.

The university holds regular practical classes for students. Production and technology practice runs at Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation nuclear power plants, research institutes, design bureaus and SPbPU laboratories. The university offers other programmes in nuclear power engineering and technology such as civil engineering, information technologies, instrument engineering etc. See the list of programmes here.
