Russia is playing host to world student games.

The international multi-sport event will take place in Krasnoyarsk on 2-12 March 2019. On March 1, the Universiade flame was carried through city street in the final leg of the relay which passed through 30 Russian cities including Moscow, St Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg, Tomsk and Vladivostok. Siberian Federal University, a prestigious Russian higher education centre, accommodated the Universiade Village on its campus. The modern complex includes several dormitories, gyms, cafes, cafes, recreation and medical centres, shops, hairdresser’s and other facilities. Athletes arrived at the village together with more than 1,000 volunteers from 25 countries such as the United States, Latvia, Serbia, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Tajikistan etc. The volunteers help allocate living quarters to Universiade athletes and guests, organise their entertainment and work at information and medical centres. The athletes and volunteers live in apartment-type dormitories with all amenities: kitchens, furnished rooms, appliances, the Internet and dining halls offering free full board. SibFU representatives arranged interesting tours of Krasnoyarsk and its outskirts.

Russia never hosted Winter Universiades before, but six years ago, Kazan Federal University welcomed the Summer Universiade athletes on its campus. Some 3,000 atheletes are taking part in winter student games 2019. They represent more than 50 countries including Hungary, Estonia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, Finland, Latvia, France, Great Britain, Canada, USA, China, Australia, Japan etc. Russia set
