International Students Testimonials

Advantages of studying in Russia for foreign nationals

Themelis Ioannis, Greece

National Research Tomsk State University

There are universities in Tomsk that are ranked high in the international rankings

I chose Russia for a number of reasons: first of all people here like the Greeks, and our countries have strong cultural relations. My choice of TSU was not accidental. I considered different universities in different cities, including Tomsk, and my friends helped me to do the research. I was surprised that there are universities in Siberia and in Tomsk in particular, that are ranked high in the international rankings. In my opinion Siberia has a very high potential to soon become an important trade route thanks to its vast natural resources and exceptional beauty of the region. You will hardly ever find this kind of beauty in the Mediterranean.

The climate is harsh here, but I can't wait to see the spring when it comes. It must be very pretty! I absolutely like TSU. One the great things about it is the diversity on campus. When I first came I was surprised by the number of international students studying for their Bachelor's and Master's at TSU. I am also impressed by the university administration: they are there for us, international students, always ready to help with any problem.

By the way, I already have my favorite place in TSU. It's the old building of the Research Library. Even though the new building is modern and looks impressive, I still think that the old building is charming and reminds us about the past days, about the long history of TSU. There are places on campus that I haven't visited yet, but I'm sure the library is beyond competition. The most difficult thing for me was to get admitted, I had to work very hard. But now I'm enjoying studying and it feels great to be here. I passed the first exams and it looks like I'm doing well.
