• Neurobiology

  This program refers to one of the highest priority scientific branches "Neurobiology". The relevance of the "Neurobiology" program opening is determined by the fact that at the moment, the study of brain functioning principles is one of the most interesting and promising tasks of modern science. It is associated with the development of medical applications: development in the field of prosthetic care and pharmacological testing systems, expansion of research instrument base possibilities, technical applications, development of intelligent navigation systems and electro-mechanical devices control. Thus, the "Neuroscience" program areas of focus include a wide range of fundamental problems and applied tasks in biology, medicine, physics and robotics. 

  Graduates of the program are highly qualified specialists with up-to-date knowledge and methods in the field of neurobiology and biophysics, who can work at medical instrumentation companies, pharmaceutical companies, laboratories of the biomedical sphere, research centers, universities and medical centers.

  Master’s degree students study at the UNN Department of Neurotechnology, Nizhny Novgorod Neuro-Science Center (NNNSC), including laboratories of optical neuroimaging, cellular electrophysiology, cellular technologies, molecular neurobiology equipped with modern facilities, such as the complex of confocal and two-photon microscopy based on Zeiss LSM-510 NLO DuoScan microscope, the complex of visualized patch-clamp registration on the basis of Olympus BX51WI microscope and NeuroSMQ RSI fast fluorescent camera, MED64 multielectrode field potentials recording system, etc. Students have the opportunity to undergo internship at leading scientific research institutes of the country. Prominent Master’s degree students have the opportunity to undergo internship in laboratories of foreign scientific centers.
  

• Molecular Biology and Immunology

  The programme is aimed at training of highly qualified specialists having relevant level of knowledge in the sphere of molecular biology, immunology and biomedicine, abilities for analytical thinking, knowledge and skills of formulation and solution of theoretical and practical tasks in the sphere of life sciences.

  Master’s degree students study at the UNN Department of Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, the UNN Scientific Research Center of Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, learn modern molecular biological and immunological methods, acquire practical skills in carrying out scientific research and molecular genetic and biotechnological works. Students also get acquainted with methods of scientific research on the basis of scientific research biomedical institutes of Nizhny Novgorod, have the opportunity to undergo internship at leading scientific research institutes of Moscow and the Moscow region. Prominent students have the opportunity to undergo internship in laboratories of foreign scientific centers.

• Microbiology and Virology

  The programme is aimed at training of highly qualified specialists having relevant level of knowledge in the sphere of fundamental and applied microbiology and virology, abilities for analytical thinking, necessary skills in the formulation and solution of theoretical and practical problems of microbiology, virology and related sciences.
  
  

  Master’s degree students study at the UNN Department of Molecular Biology and Immunology and the UNN SIC of Molecular Biology and Biomedicine, learn modern molecular-biological methods, acquire practical skills in carrying out scientific research and biotechnological work. Students also get acquainted with modern methods of scientific research on the basis of the Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare named after Acad. I. N. Blokhina.

• Biophysics

  The programme is designed for training of highly qualified professionals in the sphere of biophysics.

  The Master’s degree students study and perform scientific research work interacting with scientific organizations of Nizhny Novgorod and other regions, including the Institute of Applied Physics of RAS (Nizhny Novgorod), Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy, Institute of Metalloorganic Chemistry of RAS (Nizhny Novgorod), Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of RAS (Moscow), Institute of Physical Chemistry of RAS (Chernogolovka), Pushino Scientific Center of RAS, Macquarie University (Australia), etc.

• Physiology

  The programme is designed for training of highly qualified professionals having relevant level of knowledge in the sphere of fundamental and applied problems of physiology of man and animals; able to analyze physiological mechanisms of disorder of organs homeostasis and of organism systems under different types of alternating impacts and the recovery with the help of drugs and biological active substances; having practical skills in various areas of physiology.

  The Master’s degree students study at the Biological Department of UNN.  A number of practical workshops, specialized courses, and scientific research works are carried out jointly with the following institutions: Russian Academy of Sciences RFNC-VNIIEF (Sarov), Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (Moscow), Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Microorganisms (Pushino, Moscow region), Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biology (Pushino, Moscow region), RAAS-Scientific Research Institute of Beekeeping, industry research organizations, Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics of MHRF, Regional Hospital named after N.A. Semashko, hospitals of Nizhny Novgorod, higher education institutions: Moscow State University, Nizhny Novgorod Medical Academy.
