The program in fundamental and applied linguistics is aimed at preparing the Bachelor’s holders with a command of mathematical methods to describe and study the language. This program is interdisciplinary in nature with language being taught in combination with linguistics, mathematics, computer science, cognitive science and neuroscience.

The student learns:

  • to explore the hidden laws of the language associated with the logical, cognitive and neurophysiological aspects of human language activity;
  • to understand mathematical and computer modeling of linguistic structures and categories as well as various aspects of human language activity;
  • to develop and implement computer tools for linguistic research;
  • to create and maintain electronic linguistic resources (corpora and dictionaries) and automatic text processing programs.
