Programme focus

The programme is geared for Russian and foreign graduates with a bachelor’s and specialist’s degree, including graduates in sociology. The programme is aimed at forming system knowledge in theory, methods and methodology of sociology and social sciences. It is also designed to form skills of practical research, analysis and advisory activity aimed at studying and managerial optimizing different social processes and relations.

The students are to study theory and methodology of sociology including management sociology, classical and modern general sociological and methodological approaches to the research of social systems, communities, social processes and phenomena; issues related to the main types of theoretical and methodological explanation in sociology and their application in practical analysis and managerial activity. The programme results in taking state examinations and master’s thesis presentation.

Programme advantages

The Master’s Programme balances theoretical and applied aspects of education.  The programme focuses on fundamental and theoretical element of the sociological science. It primarily implies enhanced study of the sources which form a 'gold standard’ of sociological classics. The programme also aims at mastering practical skills of research work and applying the gain knowledge in managerial sphere.

Graduates of the Master’s programme have an opportunity to enter the post-graduate programmes. The Chair has a dissertation committee. It confers Philosopher Doctor’s and doctor’s degrees in sociology.

The Chair has a joint Master’s programme with Shandong University (China).

The students have an opportunity to do professional retraining in foreign languages and obtain the diploma and qualification in Translation.

Graduates’ expertise and career opportunities

Graduates of the programme can apply their skills and knowledge in different fields such as research work (carrying out sequential actions aimed at acquiring new knowledge about professional activities items); manufacturing and applied activities (assessment of the results and consequences of social and economic policy, social expert evaluation); project activities (diagnostics, planning and assessment of the current and goal values and drafting arrangements to optimize them in view of available resources, developing data bank to monitor project activities); pedagogical activity. The graduates of the programme can work as sociologists, analysts, marketing consultants, HR specialists, HR managers, consultants, etc.
