Programme Focus:

The programme is aimed to prepare highly qualified sociologists through providing the students with a set of competencies allowing them to apply sociological perspective to determine basic trends of social development and put in practice social technologies to transform social scopes and regulate social processes. It provides the students with a comprehensive scientific vision of human society, patterns and trends of its performance and development, mechanisms of public behaviour, etc.

Internships are provided with major analytical research organizations of sociological profile; sociological workshop at People's Friendship University; educational institutions; government agencies.

Programme Advantages lie with highly qualified teaching staff in the first place, including leading Russian sociologists – experts from the RAS Institute of Sociology and the RAS Institute of Socio-Political Research. The curriculum includes an intensive course of a foreign language (English, French, German, Spanish or Chinese electively). Students’ academic mobility is effected through overseas internship programmes (in China, France or Spain) and through opportunities to do a course in partner universities as part of Double Degree Program (Shandong University (China), Beijing Youth Centre (China), the University of Potsdam (Germany), universities in France, the Czech Republic and other countries). The students are widely engaged in scientific research carried out by Sociology Department. They actively participate in the work of Sociological Workshop and Focus Group Workshop, in conferences and theoretical seminars, symposia, research projects, followed up by publications in scientific journals.

BA in Sociology degree provides ample opportunities for professional fulfillment. The graduates have successful careers in marketing, HR services, international projects, universities and research centers, mass media or politics. They are well-prepared for various types of activities: scientific research; applied sociological research, social expertise; informational and consultative work in governmental bodies, business enterprises, educational institutions, cultural institutions, healthcare, etc.
