Nelson Elias Salinas Bustillo, Honduras
I love St Petersburg, I love every building I see and how historical it is
Hello, my name is Nelson Salina, I’m from Honduras, I studied biomedical engineering in Salvador and decided to come to Russia because I have always found it a very interesting and intriguing country. Besides this I heard that Russian studying is of a very high level, so I decided to come here. I found out about LETI on the website; I saw the programme and found it very good, I asked for information and they were very kind and fast to reply. They told me all about the programme and the university; I loved it and I decided to come.
Just arriving I thought Petersburg is a beautiful city. I have loved it, I love every building I see and how historical it is. Currently I’m studying in the bioengineering faculty programme in the English master programme. I’m studying rehabilitation and prosthetic devices. I have found the programme to be challenging enough and of a very good level. I have also found some problems with the language. I love Russian, I love every second of it; it’s very hard but it’s worth learning. Now I can say “zdravstvuite” (‘hello’ in Russian). In the programme I have liked the teachers; they are very thoughtful, they help you when you need something and they are always willing to let you know if you’re mistaken and how to correct your mistakes.
About the study here in Russia I like the system but I would change probably the evaluation process. I like more when evaluations are more practical and knowledge-based and you can see truly that students are learning. And sometimes I feel like they evaluate more if you memorized the information. We do have in the university agreement with hospitals, you can go there and see technology. You can see the environment where you will work as biomedical engineer, so that’s very nice.
