24 Russian Universities Included in QS Rankings by Subject

British company Quacquarelli Symonds ranked universities from different countries in 48 fields of study.

Russian higher education institutions had a strong showing in several subject areas in QS Rankings 2018, in particular in engineering disciplines. Lomonosov Moscow State University made the top 100 (27th position) for Physics and Astronomy, followed by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) and Novosibirsk State University in the 51-100 group. Overall 15 Russian universities were listed for this subject area. Twelve universities were among the best for Engineering and Technology. Lomonosov Moscow State University and Novosibirsk State University were listed in the top 200 (76th and 200th places, respectively). National University of Science and Technology MISiS took the 30th position in the direction Engineering - Mineral & Mining.

Nine Russian universities were ranked for mathematics. Among the top 100 were Lomonosov Moscow State University (38th place) and Saint Petersburg State University (51-100 group), followed by Higher School of Economics and Novosibirsk State University (101-150 group) and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (151-200 group). Eight Russian universities were ranked for Mechanical Engineering: Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University were present in the top 250. Eight Russian universities were ranked for Chemistry and another eight for Modern Languages including Kazan Federal University, Novosibirsk State University (151-200 group), Higher School of Economics and National Research Tomsk State University (201-250 group). The latest, eighth edition of QS World University Rankings added two new subjects: Classics and Ancient History and Library and Information Management.
