Big Ethnographic Dictation to Be Written in Russia and Other Countries

Everybody can give it a try and check their knowledge of Russian history and traditions.

Russia’s residents and foreigners interested in the culture of Russia and its peoples are welcome to join. Age fifteen plus and Russian language proficiency are the key requirements. The dictation is written at 1,500 venues across Russia and CIS countries; the addresses are available on the Big Ethnographic Dictation website. A number of Russian universities will host the Dictation, such as National Research Tomsk State University, Novosibirsk State University and Ural Federal University. The Dictation starts at 10:00, Moscow time, on 3 November 2017, but participants are requested to come one hour earlier for a slide show, trailers, quizzes and speeches by organisers and guests. Those who cannot attend in person are invited to take the test online. Access to the Dictation questions is open from 3 till 5 November. Prospective participants can register and take a promo test even now.

Dictation participants are given 45 minutes to answer 30 questions. The maximum score is 100 points. The results will be published on 12 December which is Constitution Day in Russia; winners will receive  awards on the same day. Russia will hold the Ethnographic Dictation for the second time; in 2016, more than 90,000 people took part in the test.
