FEFU Japanese Students Win Russian Language Contest

Sapporo, Hokkaido largest city, hosted the annual competition.

It was held for the 49th time bringing together 38 students from Hokkaido prefecture universities. Students of FEFU branch in the town of Hakodate took top places. The winner was fourth-year student Tomoaki Kaneko who presented “World War I on Postcards report in Russian”. Second-year student Fumiya Kudo won the third place for his story about famous Russian figure skaters. Both participants also answered additional questions posed by the jury.

Far Eastern Federal University branch has operated in Japan since 1994. It has trained more than 1,000 specialists in the Russian language and regional studies. Currently, it is providing education to 70 Japanese students. FEFU branch staff constantly involves students in events to help them learn about Russian traditions and culture; in the third year, the students have an opportunity to take an internship in Vladivostok.
