Russian universities showed excellent results at International Mathematics Competition for University Students 2020. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology won bronze in team event. Also, students who represented Higher School of Economics Moscow and HSE St Petersburg won several medals.

IMC, one of the most prestigious mathematics contests for students, has been held since 1994. It welcomes both university teams and individuals. The Bulgarian town of Blagoevgrad hosted the competition for several years; in 2020, it was held online. The 96 participant teams from across the world did not mind the unusual online mode.

Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology was 3rd in team event, narrowly losing to the Israeli team and Saint Petersburg State University.

HSE won four golds, four silvers and one bronze. Higher School of Economics St Petersburg students competed individually winning one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze.

Novosibirsk State University students showed good results as individual competitors as well.
