Russia's Top Universities according to the QS World University Rankings 2022

The UK think tank QS Quacquarelli Symonds has published the results of the QS World University Rankings 2022. A total of 1300 higher education institutions from 97 countries were included in the QS institutional ranking. A record number of universities — 48, many of which have improved their positions in the top 500, represents Russia.

Russian leaders on the global list are Lomonosov Moscow State University (78), St. Petersburg State University (242), Novosibirsk National Research State University (246), National Research Tomsk State University (272), and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (290).

Among the top places are HSE University, MEPhI, UrFU, ITMO University, TPU and NUST MISIS. RUDN traditionally improved its position and moved up to 317th place. Kazan Federal University, FEFU and SPbPU significantly increased their indicators.

The QS World University Rankings methodology uses six criteria to capture university performance, which are the following:

  • Academic Reputation
  • Employer Reputation
  • Faculty/Student Ratio
  • Citations per faculty
  • International Faculty Ratio
  • International Student Ratio
