THE World University Rankings 2019 by Subject listed six domestic universities.

Britain’s Times Higher Education ranked universities for education, social sciences, business and economics and law. Russian higher education centres entered league tables in the first three fields. In education, Russia was represented by three universities, led by Kazan Federal University. It is KFU’s first ever appearance in this field. KFU, listed in the 101-125 group, was followed by Lomonosov Moscow State University (151-175) and National Research Tomsk State University (301-400).

The number of Russian universities ranked for social sciences has increased as well. Six Russian universities were listed in this category in 2018 versus four last year. Higher School of Economics moved up 50 slots to make it into the 125-150 group outperforming KFU (301-400), National Research Tomsk State University (401-500) and Ural Federal University ( 600+). Four Russian universities were listed for business and economics. Higher School of Economics is in the lead (101-125); Lomonosov Moscow State University is in the same group. The runners-up were Saint Petersburg State University (251-300) and KFU (301-400).

THE ranks universities by five criteria such as academic stuff numbers, research (volume and reputation), citations, international collaboration (proportion of international students and teachers, papers co-authored by international scientists), and research income.
