Africa Day is celebrated around the world on May 25. This date was not chosen randomly, it is associated with the formation of the Organization of African Unity 59 years ago (since 2002 referred to as the African Union). The Unity was established in 1963 at the I Conference of African Governments in Addis Ababa. The date symbolizes the movement of African countries towards unity to ensure independent development, peace and prosperity on the continent.

Africa Day is celebrated in many Russian universities. On May 25, a large festival was held at Vernadsky Crimean Federal University and brought together about a thousand guests. Students from Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University, Kerch State Marine Technological University and other universities joined the celebration.

Russian education is highly valued in Egypt, and among African students in Russia there are many Egyptians. But citizens of other African states also get higher education in Russian universities. For instance, more than 600 South African citizens are studying in bachelor's, specialist's and master's programs. Most of them have chosen medicine as their profession.
