Kazakhstan is the top origin country for international students at Russian universities. Russian higher education centres were providing training to 52,700 Kazakh nationals in 2017/2018. The most popular fields of study are information technologies and engineering and medical sciences. Kazakh applicants are attracted by affordable tuition fees and a large range of education programmes. Under a Russian-Kazakh agreement, Kazakh nationals do not have to complete the degree recognition procedure in their homeland after graduating from Russian universities.
