TPU international partnership programmes in engineering
Tomsk Polytechnic University is actively developing connection in global cooperation and holds several programmes popular with international students from all over the world.
Many of these programmes are in nuclear energy and technology and are executed jointly with international scientific and educational centres.
In 2021, almost fifty students from Egypt, Vietnam, Kazakhstan and Russia received diplomas in Nuclear power plants (NPP): Construction, Operating and Engineering. The programme is taught in Russian and English for 5.5 years and allows future professionals to work at energy facilities and research institutes. The course covers fundamental sciences, design, management and support of nuclear power plants and units. It also includes internships with the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI in Volgodonsk and the Butakov Research Center in Tomsk.
PhD students from Egypt Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim Mohamed and Abuelsaud Raif Siam Sayed Ahmed defended their dissertations in autonomous electrical complexes. They now hold PhD degrees in Electrical and Heat Engineering.
Research projects of these scientists were devoted to the study of microgrids and autonomous voltage generators. Microgrids can help solve multiple problems, like the power supply in remote regions with no central power grids and new territories development with no electricity.
Performance improvement project for off-line voltage generators has focused on providing uninterrupted high-quality power supply for airplanes and spacecraft. The resulting algorithm will make it possible to predict energy consumer actions in micro- and even milliseconds.
Egypt is one of the TPU partners in the development of engineering sciences. Joint Egyptian-Russian programmes in energy have been running since 2015. In the future, TPU plans to develop more international programmes for students from Europe, Africa and Asia.
For example, a new master's programme in Operation and Engineering of Nuclear Power Plants will become available in the spring of 2021. It will be taught entirely in English and will allow students from countries actively invested in the energy facilities construction and development to learn the design and operation of nuclear power plants. The curriculum includes all systems covering the life cycle of heat and electricity production. Graduates could have an active career in high-tech design, modelling and support of various energy-technology units.
