Russian national theater festival. An annual award of the same name bestowed in all theater genres (drama, opera, ballet, musical, puppet theater). Best Russian theater companies come to Moscow for the event.

International Street Theatre Festival in Arkhangelsk

Theatre groups from across the world will present open air performances at several city venues. The festival will open with a carnival procession along the Severnaya Dvina Embankment.

Volga Theater Seasons Pan-Russian Festival

A multi-genre festival covering ballet, opera, drama and puppet performances. Pan-Russian Laboratory of Theater Critique, where members of the jury and well-known critics discuss the plays, runs during the festival.

2018 Student Events

Student Spring

A pan-Russian student creativity competition that includes hundreds of university festivals and 11 inter-regional events. Participants (students of Russian universities) demonstrate their talents in singing, dancing, acting and other performing arts.

KVN Top League

KVN (Club of the Funny and the Witty) Top League is the main series in the annual tournament of budding comics among Russian students. The best KVN teams compete in the Top League, and the winner is hailed as the Club Champion. All games are broadcast on Russian TV.

The series take place in Moscow throughout the year – 1/8 finals (February, March), quarter finals (summer), semifinals (autumn) and finals (December).

Dates to Remember in 2018

Russia celebrates a number of memorable dates on each year: birth dates of writers, artists, poets, and other cultural figures, and anniversaries of certain classics. Celebrations generally feature different events: premieres, exhibitions, and festivals. In 2018, Russia will celebrate the following:

  • 120th anniversary of the opening of St Petersburg’s State Russian Museum (1898)
  • 150th anniversary of F.Dostoyevsky’s novel Idiot (1868)
  • 80th birthdate of V.Vysotsky (25 January 1938 – 25 July 1980), a poet, musician and actor
  • 100th birthdate of A.Solzhenitsyn (11 December 1918 – 3 August 2008), a Russian writer, playwright, journalist and social activist
  • 150th birthdate of M.Gorky (28 March 1868 – 18 June 1936), a writer and playwright
  • 190th birthdate of N.Chernyshevsky (12 July 1828 – 29 October 1889), a philosopher and writer
  • 190th birthdate of L.Toltsoy (9 September 1828 – 20 November 1910), a Russian writer and thinker
  • 200th birthdate of I.Turgenev (9 November 1818 – 3 September 1883), a Russian writer, poet and journalist
  • 205th birthdate of F.Tyutchev (5 December 1803 – 27 July 1873), a Russian poet and diplomat
