47 Russian Universities in THE Rankings

The study aims to assess universities’ contribution to tackling socio-economic and environmental goals. 

Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings debuted as recently as 2019. It highlighted 462 universities from 76 countries. In 2020, THE ranked as many as 766 universities from 85 countries including 47 Russian higher education centres, up 17 from the previous year. Three Russian universities made the top 100. The Russian league is led by Peter the Great St Petersburg Polytechnic University (37th), Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (91st) and Altai State University (95th). Five Russian universities were listed in the 201-300 group: Kazan Federal University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, and Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. Seven Russian universities are in the 301-400 group, including Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and ITMO University.

THE Impact Rankings are based on the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as quality education, gender equality, responsible consumption, decent work, economic growth etc.
