Russian universities begin a new academic year on September 1. They are ready to reopen if all COVID-19 prevention requirements are met. Special online programmes are being designed for international students who are unable to come to Russia because of the novel coronavirus crisis.

As part of lockdown measures, Russia closed its borders with China, India, African countries (except Tanzania), Latin America, a majority of Commonwealth of Independent States countries etc. Many first year students who went home for holidays will be unable to return to the campus on time. To resolve the problem, universities, with the assistance of the Russian Education and Science Ministry, designed online programmes, scheduled online consultations and planned participation in joint international projects.

Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Samara University, Far Eastern Federal University and Ural Federal University said they were ready to launch online classes for students outside Russia. Aside from the degree programmes, international students will be able to learn Russian from home, get acquainted with their classmates and receive all the information necessary for their studies on time.

As soon as Russia opens the borders, students will return to campuses to continue their training onsite. They will probably have to take COVID-19 tests and go into a two week quarantine at the dormitory.
