Paperwork has been made easier for foreigners applying to Russian universities.

Document preparation progresses through several stages. First legalise your certificate of education (authenticte the signature and seal in your home country). Here’s how to do it. The next step is to have the previous education certificate or qualifications recognised (confirm its significance) in Russia. Russia has bilateral academic degree recognition agreements with a number of countries. Their residents do not have to complete the recognition procedure when applying to a Russian university.

Other international applicants have to visit the website of the Main Expert Centre for Education Evaluation ( Glavexpertcentre), create a personal account, upload the document, pay the state duty and wait for the certificate to be issued. Until 2020, all steps towards recognition had to be taken online, but the applicant could only collect the certificate in person or by mail. From now on, the certificate of recognition is available in digital form, so putting together the required application documents is much easier. The recognition procedure takes up to 45 days; it is recommended that you begin it in advance. For more information, visit the section on requirements for education certificates issued in foreign states.
