The university is launching a new English medium programme for journalists.

The masters programme “International News Production” was designed by the Higher School of Economics Faculty of Communications, Media and Design jointly with Russian television channels and news agencies. The programme length is two years; the objective is to train journalists skilful in modern media technologies. It consists of the theoretical and practical parts. Students initially study the theory, history and economy of mass media and get to know the fine points of legal and ethical aspects of journalism. As they progress, they will be able to choose disciplines depending on their interest, such as content production, media licensing, data journalism etc. Students will have Dalet multimedia editor tutorials and learn to run interactive projects on YouTube and social media and use 360 Television and GoPro camera. HSE professors will teach the theoretical course while programme presenters, newsroom chiefs and other specialists will address practical skills. At the end of the course, students present their projects (individual or team papers) or practice-oriented research study.

It is a fully English-taught programme, so applicants have to prove their proficiency by taking an examination (a test and listening comprehension). They also have to submit a cover letter and essay written in English for a portfolio contest. Tuition fee: 400,000 rubles ($6,150) a year.
